How long does Wedding Hair and Makeup Take

You’re getting married! We’ll talk about timelines and how long hair and makeup for a wedding should take. You’ve been planning your wedding for months and you want everything to go as smoothly as you can. Weddings can be a blur! It takes you about a year to plan this big day and it’s over in a blink. Let’s go back to the beginning when we prepare you and your friends.

What Is a Timeline?

A Timeline is a schedule that shows the services to be performed and when they should start and finish. Your wedding planner or artist will create a timeline to ensure that everything runs smoothly on your big day.

I design my timelines based on how the wedding party will walk down the aisle. As mom must walk down the aisle first, I put her on the top of my list. This allows her to get ready while the rest of you girls pop bottles and twerk! Bridesmaids and the bride are the next to be on the list after moms.

How Long Does It Take to Do Hair and Make-Up?

You have asked your best friend, sister, sorority sister, and cousins to stand by you during the most important moment of your life. You are all set for the big event until you learn that you need to get up at 9 am to begin hair and makeup before your wedding at 4 pm. Why?

The average time for hair and/or make-up services is 45 minutes. This does not include the bride. If your wedding is scheduled for 4 pm, then you will need to arrive at 3 pm in order to get ready and line up by 3:45 pm. The beauty services for the bride, five bridesmaids, and their mothers will begin at 9 am that morning. Remember that the larger your wedding party is, the longer it will take to service all of the guests. Artists may bring an assistant or three to serve everyone at the wedding party due to the large number of guests or the tight timeline.

If you or your bridal party require extensions or longer or thicker locks, it will add time and cost to your timeline. Don’t forget that styles with a lot of detail will also require more time.

You will need to wait until the very end to have your hair and make-up done. Due to the extra work and attention to detail, your wedding hair and make-up will take approximately 2-2 1/2 hours. Below is a sample timeline.

You may want to bring snacks, order room service, or have a catered meal because the day is going to be long. I’ve seen bridesmaids become light-headed at the ceremony, and nearly pass out from not having eaten anything. We love snacks as well! We love snacks, especially if we are going to be there with you for more than 7 hours.
