How to Get Rid of Acne Marks Using Natural Ingredients At Home

Acne marks are the unsightly marks left after an acne breakout. Although not all acne leads to acne marks, severe acne or cystic acne can lead to scarring. These scars are more likely to develop into permanent scars if left untreated. Fresh acne marks are easy to remedy at home if they have not dried out yet. Here are some ways on how to get rid of acne marks at home:

Oatmeal Facial Mask

An oatmeal facial mask is one of the simplest ways on how to get rid of acne marks. Oatmeal has astringent properties that tighten pores and disinfect the face. It also absorbs and removes excess oil, and removes and exfoliates dead skin cells. Make an oatmeal facial mask by mixing half-a-cup of oatmeal to a cup of hot water. Wait for the mixture to cool down then smooth the mixture on your face. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes then remove the hardened mixture using a warm and wet washcloth. Repeat two times a day.

Tea Tree Oil

A common ingredient in acne creams and lotions, tea tree oil contains antimicrobial properties. It aids in killing acne-causing bacteria and reducing inflammation due to acne breakouts. It is also often used as a natural alternative to benzoyl peroxide and is a popular way to get rid of acne overnight.

Using pure tea tree oil may be harsh on the face. Dip a cotton swab to pure tea tree oil and quickly dip it again to clean water to dilute it. Dab the diluted tea tree oil to the area which have fresh red acne marks. You can repeat this procedure after the oatmeal facial mask.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice also has astringent and antimicrobial properties, making it one of the most used tips for getting rid of acne and pimples. However, like tea tree oil, dabbing pure lemon juice can harm your skin. You can dilute the lemon juice in water or mix it with yogurt, honey, or egg whites to protect your skin while healing it.

Tomatoes and Cucumber

Tomatoes are antioxidants that help eliminate free radicals. Tomatoes are also rich in vitamin C, which helps repair the skin. Cucumber, on the other hand, cools and sooths irritated or inflamed skin. Applying a mesh of pure tomatoes on your face can help tighten the pores and reduce acne marks. Putting slices of cucumber after these will sooth and cool down your skin while constricting the pores on your face. You can also make a paste mixture using these two ingredients.

Sandalwood Oil

Sandalwood oil has long been used as a home remedy for scars, dry skin, bronchitis, chapped skin, stretch marks, stress, burns, rashes, and cuts. Because of its antimicrobial properties, sandalwood oil has been extensively used as a natural way on how to get rid of acne at home. To use for acne marks, mix the oil with rose water or a carrier oil, like evening primrose oil or rosehip oil. Apply it on the entire face or dab it on the acne-marked area. Leave overnight and wash it off with cold water the next day.

Do not apply pure sandalwood oil on your face, as even a mild version of the oil is still considered strong for the sensitive skin. Before using, dab a small portion of sandalwood oil on your wrist and observe for any allergic reactions.
