There are more and more variations of toothbrushes that are sold freely in the market. This of course makes you even more confused about choosing a good toothbrush for everyday use.

Indeed, choosing a good toothbrush cannot be taken lightly. The reason is, optimal dental and oral health begins with the use of the right toothbrush.

So, how about your toothbrush at home? Are you sure you have chosen the right type of toothbrush?

Well , so you don’t get me wrong, here are some things you need to pay attention to regarding how to choose a good and right toothbrush:

1. Toothbrush Bristle Texture
When you want to choose a toothbrush product, you may find the terms hard , medium , soft on the packaging. The term describes the texture of the brush bristles in the related product.

Logically, a hard bristle brush ( hard ) could be the most optimal dental cleaning. But in fact, hard bristles can actually hurt the gums, especially if used in an inappropriate way.

The risk of using hard bristles can cause the gums to recede, so that the roots of the teeth that should be covered by the gums are exposed. As a result, the teeth become sensitive and prone to caries at the root of the tooth.

Therefore, instead of choosing a type of toothbrush with a hard label , it is better to choose a medium or soft one . This type of toothbrush with a medium label is perfect for those of you who have healthy gums and don’t bleed easily.

Meanwhile, the type of toothbrush with a soft label is best for those of you who are prone to bleeding or sensitive gums.

2. Toothbrush Head Tip
A good toothbrush should have a ‘head’ size that fits the shape and condition of the mouth. But basically, a small brush head is the best because it can reach all the way to the back of the teeth.

Not only in terms of size, but also the shape or cross-section of the toothbrush head. As is known, the cross-section of the toothbrush head is oval, rounded in the middle, and some are smaller at the ends.

For those of you who have wide and large mouth openings, you can more freely choose the toothbrush you want. However, for people who have a narrower mouth opening and full teeth, it is better to use a toothbrush with a head that narrows at the end.

With such a toothbrush, you will be able to clean up to the very end of the back teeth. This brush is even suitable for brushing teeth that are not neatly arranged, you know !

3. Toothbrush Handle ( handle )
The shape of the toothbrush handle has no significant effect. However, it would be better if you choose a toothbrush with a rough handle so that it doesn’t feel slippery when gripped while brushing your teeth.

4. Between Electric or Manual Toothbrush
An electric toothbrush is no better at cleaning teeth than a manual toothbrush. However, an electric toothbrush is a better choice for certain people.

Such as the elderly, people with osteoarthritis (arthritis) or other similar diseases that cause limited hand movement, and people with disabilities, such as children with mental retardation who must be helped when brushing their teeth.

Electric toothbrush manufacturers may also be more attractive to children, because they are easy and fun to use, of course, they must be accompanied by parents. So, regardless of the type of toothbrush you choose, whether electric or manual, be sure to keep it adjusted to your needs. Do not push yourself!

5. Adjust for Age
Adjust the toothbrush you choose according to the age of the user. If for children, choose a toothbrush with a smaller ‘head’ with a round tip and a large handle or easy to grip.

You can also choose a toothbrush with colorful handles or cute shapes, to make it more interesting and motivate your child to brush their teeth more diligently.
